Saudi Arabia records 15 COVID-19 deaths, 1,157 new cases

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia recorded 15 new COVID-19 related deaths on Monday, raising the total number of fatalities to 7,264.
The Ministry of Health confirmed 1,157 new confirmed cases reported in the Kingdom in the previous 24 hours, meaning 442,071 people have now contracted the disease. 
Of the total number of cases, 9,130 remain active and 1,334 in critical condition.
According to the ministry, the highest number of cases were recorded in Makkah with 357, followed by the capital Riyadh with 320, the Eastern Province with 137, Madinah recorded 100 and Jazan confirmed 60 cases.
The health ministry also announced that 987 patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 425,677.
The ministry renewed its call on the public to register to receive the vaccine, and adhere to the measures and abide by instructions.

Meanwhile, police in Jazan said they arrested 100 women in Beesh governorate during a gathering that violated the precautionary measures. Penalties were imposed on the organizers and everyone who attended the gathering, media spokesman Maj. Nayef Hakami said.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs reopened 16 mosques in five regions after temporarily evacuating and sterilizing them after 16 people tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of mosques closed and reopened after being sterilized to 1,326 within 107 days.
The National Center for Mental Health Promotion said rumors circulating on social media platforms and websites about the coronavirus vaccine being unsafe are incorrect and have negative repercussions on the mental health of community members.
The center renewed its warning to not listen to rumors and false information about the insecurity of the vaccine and to take correct health information from the Kingdoms’ official sources, adding that it provides psychological counseling services to community members who have fear, anxiety or reluctance to take the vaccine.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected over 167 million people globally and the death toll has reached around 3.47 million.
